Sheridan Public Library
Located in one of the fastest growing counties in Indiana, the Sheridan Public Library seeks an innovative and strategically- focused director.
Serving a population of more than 5,000 people, the Sheridan Public Library is located in the northwest corner of Hamilton County. This community (consisting of residents of all ages) will grow as the communities surrounding Sheridan push further north.
The Sheridan Public Library director serves as the administrative leader of the library and reports directly to the board of directors. The director is responsible for the operation and management of the library. The director is a leader who gives life to the strategic plan in order to help the library reach its potential. The director is a liaison with the local community, the county and the state. Therefore, excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary for achieving the goals of the library.
Qualifications: BS/BA required from an accredited institution and at least 15 hours of state required library science courses; Master of Library Science from an ALA accredited institution preferred. Minimum Library Certification 4. Prior library experience in a leadership position a must. Experience in bonds preferred. This is a permanent, full-time, exempt (salaried) position and is PERF eligible.
Expectations: The director is expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, including some nights and Saturdays.
Duties and Responsibilities: The director is responsible for monthly board meetings; supervision of staff; instilling a climate of customer-focused service; and, implementing policies and procedures.
The director is also responsible for implementing the strategic plan, investigating technologies, and by working with all ages, the development and implementation of programming.
Skills: The director needs to possess grant writing success, administers the annual budget and anticipates needed expenditures including building maintenance. The director represents the library in the community and oversees the development of all marketing materials and social media. The director will reach out to the community to promote a life-long love of reading.
